Words and Architecture

After an architect is done talking, the building stands in mute silence in its materiality in a metric space. All we have are materials with their geometry and dimensions. Words do not attach themselves to buildings unless you affix them as signs on a building. We project words onto buildings with our imagination and vagaries in a futile attempt to make something stick. Words cannot stick to buildings with any integrity. Each one affixes their own words to the buildings they encounter in their own way. So the semantic world of buildings is always changing and has to be negotiated each time. Let us dwell in buildings in their silence with no words to bother us in perceiving them in a pure state.
